What’s Up in Training?

MEMI in Singapore

The first MEMI International Conference was held in Singapore on December 6, 2024. With over 70 in attendance, the conference featured a keynote address by Mike Deninger, several case presentations of MEMI results by attendees, and two live MEMI demonstrations by Dr. Mike.

Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Training

Over 50 MEMI practitioners have been trained in the region, making Singapore “ground zero” for MEMI advancement. Following the conference, a MEMI training was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in January and another is planned for Nepal in May.

Brian Simmons, our MEMI trainer in Southlake, Texas will be teaching the first 5-day MEMI training for first responders at the end of January. Brian has extensive experience with first responders and human trafficking victims and brings new insights and skills to our work.

On January 31st, Dr. Mike will be attending the 2025 HypnoConference in Las Vegas sponsored by International Certification Board of Coaches and Hypnotists where he will be making two MEMI presentations.

Please welcome Mr. Barry Neale, MEMI’s newest licensed MEMI trainer. Barry has been an NLP and hypnosis trainer for over 27 years. He has trained students all over the world in both NLP and hypnosis. He also runs a thriving practice in the UK. We expect Barry to begin teaching the MEMI Level I course for NLP Practitioners, Hypnotists and Life Coaches sometime this Spring.

MEMI Courses

As we transition our courses and certification process from Arizona Trauma Institute to our own platform, we are delighted to announce a continued commitment to providing MEMI training to deaf as well as hearing professionals. The first course below is our standard course for hearing professionals. The second is one we have designed for deaf and hard of hearing practitioners.

1. MEMI Level I for Clinicians

This standard MEMI Level I course is designed for licensed or credentialed mental health clinicians who can hear, as opposed to the American Sign Language course, which is intended for deaf and hard of hearing professionals. This course was completely redesigned in 2024 and now includes recent neuro science findings regarding the role of eye movements in calming amygdala hyperactivity in response to threats. This course imparts the basic knowledge required for learners to successfully conduct MEMI sessions and to evaluate the results. It also satisfies the knowledge requirement for MEMI certification. Although the language of instruction is spoken English, all videos are captioned to assist speakers of other languages. To view course content.

2. MEMI Level I for American Sign Language (ASL) Proficient Clinicians

This course also imparts the basic knowledge required for learners to successfully conduct MEMI sessions and to evaluate the results. But this version is designed for licensed or credentialed mental health clinicians who are deaf or heard of hearing, or who are fluent in ASL. In all formats, the language of instruction is ASL, whether in-person, live streamed or via online webinars. Thus, this course is completely accessible to therapists who work with deaf and hard of hearing consumers. All videos are captioned with English voice over. Completion of this course satisfies the knowledge requirement for MEMI certification. Similarly, the coaching provided following successful course completion and in preparation for certification is also conducted in ASL, eliminating the need for interpreters. To view course content.

3. MEMI Level I for Non-clinicians

This course is designed for individuals who are not licensed mental health practitioners (e.g., paraprofessionals, peer counselors, hypnotists, NLP practitioners, body stabilization workers and first responders) but who provide crisis support services as part of their work. Clinical topics such as PTSD diagnostic criteria and standardized assessments are not included. Instead, the Neuro-Linguistic Programming theory and principles that gave rise to all eye movement techniques for trauma form the bedrock of this course. For a complete description of this course.
