Dr. Mike's Story

I know what it’s like to recover from PTSD.
About a year after I admitted I was an alcoholic and stopped drinking, I was confronted by disturbing childhood memories. I was working as a research scientist at the time and pursuing a graduate degree in counseling. The anxiety and depression I experienced were so severe that I took a leave of absence to address the sexual trauma in therapy. It would take two years to sort through those events and to heal in the aftermath of their unmasking. Although I can now recall those memories without undue distress, I will never forget the sleeplessness, nausea and despair from that period in my life.
From that time on, I viewed every PTSD study I read with a steely existential eye, particularly when one method claimed superior effectiveness. Since then—and out of concern for others in my tribe—my goal has been to identify uncomplicated trauma methods that work, that make a real difference in survivors’ lives.
The innovative, sensory-based approaches I developed culminated in the 2021 publication of Multichannel Eye Movement Integration: The Brain Science Path to Easy and Effective PTSD Treatment. I have been using eye movement therapies with PTSD clients of all types and stripes for over 25 years now. They work.
That’s why I am delighted to introduce you to the same methods I have tested in sessions with hundreds of trauma survivors and trained thousands of practitioners to use.
